The NW team hop to it!
I was thrown in at the deep end for my first assignment as Nursery World’s new guest blogger, and asked to report on the team’s visit to a Busy Bees nursery on a leg of their Olympic torch relay. Apparently my invite got stuck in the post?
The team went to Busy Bees’ Hammersmith nursery for an Olympics themed morning as part of the group’s torch relay- a 136 day event touring all of Busy Bees’ nurseries.
The Olympics themed event ties in with the physical activity programme the nursery group are taking part in, where children are challenged with walking eight miles over the course of a year. Through the Golden Mile initiative, the nursery has pledged to raise £44,000 for the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
I’m told that Busy Bees have had to deal with some unpredictable weather since starting their relay in January, battling through ice and snow in March, torrential rain in April and May and now temperatures hotter than Hawaii.
While I had to settle for having my picture taken outside the nursery, everyone else got the chance to meet staff and children, four times British taekwondo champion-Romaine Bailey, the Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham and Mr Busy Bee. Shame as I think Mr Busy Bee and me would have really hit it off.

The morning ended with a mini sports day that saw the children practice their ball skills and bunny hop around a course. I’m sure I could have shown them a thing or two.

Hop, hop
