The Nursery World team were joined by a pink, fluffy cuddly rabbit this week, who helped them out in their West London office, answering phone calls and doing some photo-copying before being briefed on the Nutbrown Review.

His visit to the office was completely unplanned and a surprise until that morning when I received a call asking me if I had received the toy in the post.

I have to admit the thought of being given a cuddly toy filled me with delight, because after all you are never too old for a cuddly toy, and gifts are always well received in the office.

While he was a great help, the purpose of his visit was to alert the team to a new initiative that helps reunite children with their lost teddies.

Return my Ted is like a tagging system for toys. Parents purchase a tag which comes with its own unique ID that they register online with their contact details. The idea being that if the toy gets lost, the finder will see the tag and contact Return my Ted, who will send the toy back to its owner.

I remember as a child losing my favourite teddy – ‘travelling bear’ – in a supermarket. Don’t let the name fool you he was less well-travelled than most soft toy animals. Fortunately he turned up a few days later to my mother’s relief, but looking a little worse for wear. Although I suspect if he hadn’t of turned up my parents would have had a screaming child on their hands, as the bear was irreplaceable.

The bunny that briefly visited the NW office was destined for an NSPCC home where its new owner was patiently waiting for it. While the team was sad to say goodbye to the teddy they were pleased it was going to a loving home. Before sending it to back to Return my Ted, we took a few photos as memories of the bunny’s time with us.

For every tag purchased by parents, Return my Ted will also donate £2 to their early years setting.
